Welcome Summer Intern, Avari!

This summer, Avari will gain experience in several areas of Sojourner’s work. She will primarily support children and families in the shelter, while also learning about community legal advocacy and assisting with outreach and education efforts. Through these experiences, she’ll get a hands-on look at how Sojourner supports survivors and strengthens our community.

What are you hoping to learn this summer? This summer, I am hoping to learn more about the resources available at Sojourner and how I can contribute to the team. I am interested in learning how to better connect with people through their journey and how I can support individuals in meaningful ways.

What interested you in this opportunity? I was interested in getting involved with Sojourner because of its dedication to supporting individuals and its commitment to meeting people where they are. This community leaves judgment at the door and empowers people to be the decision makers in their own lives. Being part of an organization that supports and uplifts individuals in this way is what inspired me to get involved.

What’s a fun fact about you? A fun fact about me is that I used to be a competitive gymnast growing up! However, please don’t ask me to do a flip now because I’m definitely out of practice.

Where do you attend school? I am a student at CSBSJU majoring in Biology on the pre-medicine track and minoring in Global Health.

What career are you interested in pursuing? I am interested in pursuing a career in women’s health and/or reproductive health.

Anything else you’d like to share? I am excited to get started and look forward to getting to know everyone on the team!
