Get to Know Makayla, Our MSW Intern!

We’re excited to introduce you to Makayla, who’s joining us at Sojourner this year as a Master of Social Work intern from the University of St. Thomas! Makayla is eager to learn more about supporting survivors of domestic violence. She’s already jumped right in, helping with our legal advocacy work, support group and community outreach and education.
Makayla was drawn to Sojourner because of our work supporting survivors of domestic violence, along with our focus on prevention and community education. During her internship, she hopes to learn more about helping survivors navigate the legal system, reclaim their power, and feel less alone as they explore their options.
She’s also looking forward to building her skills in crisis intervention, safety planning and community advocacy. As she explores this new area of social work, Makayla is excited to learn from the Sojourner team and become part of a community working to make a difference.
Outside of school and her internship, Makayla enjoys taking walks around the lake and watching the leaves change colors in the fall. She’s also a cat person! She has a two-year-old tortoiseshell cat named Boo, inspired by the character from Monsters, Inc.
We’re so glad to have Makayla joining us this year! Welcome to Sojourner, Makayla!
