At Sojourner, each day is focused on safety, stability, and moving forward. Here’s what a day might look like for a mom staying with us and working to rebuild her life:
6:30 AM – Starting the Day
She wakes with her alarm clock, moving through her morning routine while helping her children get dressed and ready for school. In the dining room, they enjoy a warm breakfast, an egg bake, and fresh fruit prepared by Sojourner’s in-house cook.
By 7:50 AM, she walks her children outside to catch the school bus, waving as it pulls away—a mix of pride and worry in her heart.
8:30 AM – Advocacy and Action
With her children at school, she meets with her Sojourner advocate. Together, they follow up on her public assistance application and explore local housing resources. These meetings are a lifeline—supportive, practical, and focused on building a safer future.
10:00 AM – Searching for Stability
She heads to the Resource Room, where she spends time researching safe, affordable housing. She makes calls, asks questions, and adds her name to waitlists.
11:30 AM – A Moment of Healing
Her day continues with a telehealth therapy session facilitated by the Sojourner therapist. These sessions have become an important part of her week and have helped her to process everything she’s been through.
12:30 PM – Lunch and Connection
Lunch is a baked potato bar, shared with another mom in the dining room. They talk about how good it feels to be safe here and how hard it is to find housing they can afford.
1:30 PM – Housing & Legal Check-Ins
Back in the Resource Room, she dives into housing searches again. Later, she meets again with her advocate to talk about updates on her legal case and what comes next.
3:30 PM – Kids Come Home
Her children get dropped off from school. They sit together in the Family Room, cartoons flickering on the TV, before heading to dinner: spaghetti and meatballs, salad, and garlic bread.
6:00 PM – Support for All
Childcare volunteers arrive, and her kids run off excitedly for an evening of board games and crafts. Meanwhile, she heads to the Women’s Room for a support group.
8:30 PM – Bedtime and Chores
After group, she gets her kids ready for bed. Once they’re asleep, she finishes her evening chores- dusting and mopping the Family Room.
9:00 PM – Winding Down
The day ends with connection. In the Women’s Room, she chats with a few other moms. They talk, share snacks and support each other. It’s a quiet way to end a full day.
At Sojourner, every day brings challenges—but also progress. With support and care, each resident takes steps toward safety and stability.
