Our summer Shelter intern is on her way back to school. Below are her thoughts about what she learned over the summer and how she will use this experience going forward.

My time at Sojourner this summer has been filled with learning opportunities and memorable experiences. I was able to learn the ins and outs of working in a domestic violence shelter and the resources available for survivors of domestic violence. I was able to take what I have learned in my undergraduate courses and apply it in the field. My time at Sojourner has been a meaningful experience that I will take with me as I finish my last year at Elon University. I am thankful for the staff at Sojourner for being so welcoming and for the learning opportunities they have provided. The women I have met this summer have shown incredible strength and have taught me lessons I will hold with me long after my internship.

Going forward I am eager to take what I have learned this summer and apply it to my new role as the Student Coordinator for Family Abuse Services of Alamance county. I hope to continue learning and take on a role where I can facilitate increased domestic violence awareness on Elon Universities' campus and lead to an increased volunteer interest. It is my hope that in this role I can impact others in the way that I have been impacted during my time as Shelter Intern at Sojourner.
