Changing the culture around sexual violence starts with the conversations we have every day. Talking about consent, respect, and personal boundaries may feel awkward, but these discussions matter.

You don’t need the perfect words. What counts is showing up with honesty, listening carefully, and being open to understanding. Even small, thoughtful conversations can make a real difference in preventing harm and supporting each other.

5 Conversations That Can Help Prevent Sexual Violence

  1. Talk with a partner about consent, boundaries, and respect.

  2. Check in with a friend if something doesn’t feel right.

  3. Speak up when someone’s behavior is harmful or makes you uncomfortable.

  4. Challenge victim-blaming or harmful jokes.

  5. Ask for or offer support if someone has experienced sexual harm.

If you or someone you care about needs support, contact the Sojourner Crisis Line at 952-933-7422. Trained advocates are available 24/7 to listen, support and provide resources.
